Victor Bailey V-Funk

Without doubt, VICTOR BAILEY belongs to one of the greatest bass player of our time.

He not only plays the bass but also arranges and composes songs for many musicians and bands. With his own group Victor tours the world with tremendous success.

With his newest project, V-FUNK! Victor Bailey has turned his eye and ear in the direction of the FUNK. Says Bailey "after years of straddling the line in all genres, I wanted to find a focus for my next project. I've done jazz/funk/fusion music for my entire career, usually leaning heavily on the jazz/fusion side. This time I thought I'd see what I could do if I kept the funk mentality at the forefront". He describes V-FUNK! as "funk with a jazz background and a college education". My intention is to incorporate in high level of musicality with a party atmosphere. As everyone knows, I've always had a great love for a strong groove, but have always kept it more on my R&B side. It's proven to be quite a thrill to try to keep the groove thing going and maintain a level of musical sophistication at the same time. I'm having a ball with this"!

His music might be considered as post-funk-jazz.
In any case, it's inspiring, funky and extraordinary groove!

Since the late seventies, as a teenager, Victor Bailey has been hailed as one of the worlds greatest bass guitarists. He gained international recognition in the early nineteen eighties when he joined the innovative jazz fusion supergroup Weather Report. He has made three of the most highly acclaimed solo records ever by any bassist. As a studio musician he has played on over one thousand records. He has toured and recorded with artists as diverse as Joe Zawinul, Mary J. Blige and Madonna.

He recorded and toured with artists like Weather Report, Weather Update, Steps Ahead, Bill Evans, The Zawinul Syndicate, Madonna, Lady Gaga etc…

Stanley Clarke, Alphonso Johnson, Jaco Pasturius, Larry Graham, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder.

Victor Bailey, already hailed as one of the world's greatest bass players as a teenager, stormed the music scene back in the early eighties when, as a nineteen year old fresh out of school he joined the innovative jazz fusion giants, Weather Report. He immediately became a major player on the world music scene.

He was also a member of another jazz fusion innovator, the legendary band Steps Ahead. As a studio musician he has appeared on over one thousand recordings. Those recordings range from Joe Zawinul to LL Cool J to Mary J Blige. As a bassist he has appeared with an astounding array of artists from all genres, such as Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Micheal Brecker and The Joe Zawinul Syndicate. During the nineties he took a huge leap into the pop world as bassist for megastar Madonna.

He has now released three highly acclaimed solo records "Low Blow", "That's Right", "Bottom's Up", „Slippn' N' Trippin'„ which one major music magazine called arguably the best solo record ever by a bass guitarist.

Michael "Patches" Stewart (trumpet):
Thus far, Michael "Patches" Stewart's role as a trumpeter has been primarily to fill in for the late Miles Davis. Playing muted with Marcus Miller, Stewart can often sound very close to Davis during the latter trumpeter's later years. He became a professional when he was 16, making his recording debut that same year on a Patti LaBelle record. Stewart has since worked with Quincy Jones, David Sanborn, George Duke and Whitney Houston, and he spent eight years as part of Al Jarreau's backup band. From the mid '90's on, Stewart's most notable association has been with Marcus Miller in a band that sounds eerily like Miles Davis' final group. In addition to his recordings with Miller, Michael Stewart has recorded his own dates for the Hip Bop label.

Theo Hill (keyboards):

Theo Hill is a jazz pianist and composer who has emerged as one of the preeminent young jazz artists on the New York scene. Born in Albany into a musical family, he began studying classical piano at the age of five. At age 12, Hill gravitated toward jazz, studying piano with Lee Shaw, a protégé of Oscar Peterson, and later with Barry Harris. Hill became a four-year member of the Empire State Youth Jazz Orchestra and College of St. Rose Jazz Ensemble. By 16, he was performing regularly at jazz clubs in the tri-city area. He was accepted to the Jazz Conservatory at SUNY Purchase where he studied piano with Charles Blenzig and Hal Galper. Hill began sitting in at jam sessions in New York City with many great musicians. As a two-year member of the New York Youth Symphonys Jazz Band Classic he has performed with Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Lew Soloff, and Joe Locke, and received the Directors Award for Commitment and Achievement for its 2003-2004 season.

He has performed in such venues as Blue Note, Smalls, 55 Bar, The Jazz Gallery, The Jazz Standard, Zinc Bar, Lenox Lounge, The Kitano, Mintons Playhouse, St. Nicks Pub, Smoke, Cleopatras Needle, Sweet Rhythm, Fat Cat and Nublu. Essiet, Joe Ford, Wayne Escoffrey, Sean Conly, Rudy Royston, Gregg August, Justin Brown, Logan Richardson, Nir Felder, Joe Sanders, Marcus Gilmore and Stacy Dillard.

Hill leads his own group, the Theo Hill Trio a small collective of musicians that allows him to explore and expand his compositions and musical ideas. Hill performs regularly and is currently working on his debut record and tours with groups around the world.

Rocky Bryant (drums):

Rocky Bryant's diverse drumming abilities have kept him on stage and in the studio with some of the best names in music. He has performed and/or recorded with Dianne Reeves (grammy award winning CD), Branford Marsalis & Buckshot LeFonque, Lalah Hathaway, Peter Frampton, Maxwell, Cyndi Lauper, David Sanborn, Faith Hill, Brandy, Daryl Hall(Hall & Oates), Des'ree, Paula Abdul, Billy Joel, and The Family Stand to highlight but a few. "From the beginning, versatility has been in the forefront of my musical vision."

Growing up in NJ and having access to the broad musical scene of NYC, helped to set the stage for the wide range of playing experiences that have followed. Rocky started taking drum lessons while in the fifth grade. While being taught in a somewhat classical style, he was also moved by the popular R&B of bands like The Ohio Players, and Sly & the Family Stone. Rocky involved himself in every musical situation he could find including, orchestra, jazz ensemble, and marching band. He auditioned for and landed a position in the NJ All State Orchestra while in the sixth and seventh grade. While in eleventh grade he did his first recording with actor/singer, Joe Morton.

After high school graduation, Rocky attended the Drummers Collective in NY to study vibraphone. Soon after, he began touring and continued recording with a host of artists from the NY area.

Throughout his travels, Rocky also became interested in writing. He studied composition with Edgar Grana in NY, when touring permitted. He has since co-written for the CD's, Music Evolution (Buckshot LeFonque) and Souvenir (Ricky Peterson).

Rocky is presently developing songs for a recording which will allow his drumming and writing abilities to shine.

Marcus Machado (guitar):

Marcus started playing professionally at the age of 10 years old. As a young teen he was featured on CNN and several TV and radio shows.

Marcus is a member of S.A.G. and had a acting role in John Singleton‘s 1997 movie, „Rosewood“. He was nominated at Central Florida 2001 #1 Blues Artist of the Year. Marcus been called the „Young Jimi Hendrix“ but he wants to be known for his own music. His musical influences have been Jazz, R&B, Funk, Rap. Rock and Gospel.

In 2007 Marcus was given the opportunity to tour in Europe with the group The Family Stand (with mentors Sandra St. Victor and Vernon Jeffrey Smith) and met Dutch soul singer Boris. Marcus officially moved to Holland in early 2008 and recorded songs with Boris on his CD, „Live My Live“ which was released in 2009 in Holland. He toured with Boris as the musical director and played 120 shows for the tour which included Holland, France, Denmark and Germany.

In 2010 Marcus was showcased as the musical director and bandleader on the Boris „Live My Life Live“ CD. He toured with Boris opening up for Simply Red and played the Park Pop Festival for 300 000 people. He has played along with greats like Sandra St. Victor, Buddy Miles, Marcus Miller, Ramsey Lewis, Robert Glasper, Zakk Wylde, Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, DJ Logic, Tony Royster, Kid Capri, Gary Hoey, The Family Stand and many others.

In 2011 he performed at the tribute show for the great legend Bill Withers with Sandra St. Victor. This tribute show took place at the Carr‘e Theatre, Amsterdam for 1500 people. He performed with singers from Holland and the states ft. Boris, Ryan Shaw and Michelle Davis amo. Also, in 2011 Marcus toured with Sandra St. Victor in Italy and is presently working on an EP with her. He is working on a live band Hip Hop CD called the AQ‘s and is working on his own solo CD which he is planning to release later this year.
