This is the album I have been waiting for for over 10 years since I first heard Jojo on the Screaming Headless Torsos album. On word: Awesome.
I first heard this album a year and a half age in my friens car. I've been checking iTunes for it ever since. YES FINALLY =)
Jojo has been a huge inspiration and influence to many in the know and it's great to finally hear the studio-recorded versions of these tracks. Very impressed with what was captured here. It's modern blend of DnB electronica with organic flavors and mesmerizing beats. Many frequency ranges are well represented and pleasing to the ear. Great production. Somehow I can foresee digital artists of the future re-engineering these "reverse engineered" tracks. Brilliant!!!
I think everyone has been waiting for this CD! Jojo Mayer is one of the most amazing drummers I've ever seen, he's a wonderful educator and a masterful musician. Prohibited Beats is a stunning album and an awesome display of Jojo's prowess on the drums. It's difficult, being a drummer, not to look at this album from a drumming standpoint, but drumming aside this album is brilliant as well. Live Jungle/Drum N' Bass can be difficult to perform without it sounding mechanical, but Jojo Mayer and Nerve manage to give this normally electronic music a very human and organic feel without sacrificing the spirit of this style of music. Great album.
Jojo is a modern day Buddy Rich... this album is a masterpiece.
I've been waiting for this album for about four years now and it does not disappoint. Jojo is truly one of the greatest drummers alive and will go down in history as a drum God. The band is an amazing example of musicianship taken to an extreme. It sounds like computer created music but everything is played by musicians. I've seen them live 3 times and it is spiritual experience. To me this is modern Jazz.
