Karlis Vanags City Jazz Big Band is a 20 piece band that unites musicians wishing to play music of high artistic quality for their own and listeners' enjoyment. In the relatively short period of its existence the big band has performed together with a great deal of leading Latvian jazz and pop singers and soloists as well as foreign artists. Mats Holmquist, Magnus Lingren, Magnum Coltrane Price, Michael Varekamp etc. 

Together with the City Jazz Big Band "Zawinul / Pastorius Tribute" features bass virtuoso Victor Bailey will be a first cooperation.

Since the late seventies, as a teenager, Victor Bailey has been hailed as one of the worlds greatest bass guitarists. He gained international recognition in the early nineteen eighties when he joined the innovative jazz fusion supergroup Weather Report. Victor has made three of the most highly acclaimed solo records ever by any bassist. As a studio musician he has played on over one thousand records. He has toured and recorded with artists as diverse as Joe Zawinul, Mary J. Blige and Madonna.

Jaco Pastorius is definitely one of the all-time greatest bassists and innovators that has ever lived. His unique playing style and personality leaves no listener indifferent. Jaco is well known as the prior member of legendary group Weather Report, but in the beginning of 80-ties Jaco started his solo project, the Innovative Word of Mouth that fluctuated in size from a large combo to a big band. Also member of the legendary Weather Report, Joe Zawinul stays on our minds as one of the most influential musicians ever. This project honors Joe, who'd celebrate his 80th anniversary in 2012.
